Resignation

Dearest Aoc Gold,

It is with a heavy heart and a leaden keyboard that I write this post. I am so sorry it has come to this after our long and faithful relationship. I feel especially bad doing this to you, my most faithful commentator, which is why I'm bothering to write this at all even though no one else cares. In fact, that's part of the problem. I haven't posted in half a month, but does anyone notice? Do they comment? Do they even read?

I've noticed that bloggers destined for success gain their followings in no time at all. NMF#7, for instance, has been nominated for a Blogger's Choice barely half a year into her career. Little Sheep is even newer but she already appears to be building an empire. Bad4Shidduchim has been around the block by now but had her own club within the first few months, too. Four-month-old BoSD isn't doing too badly herself with 21 followers. The fact that I even know all this is just further proof that I need to spend less time in blogland. But the point is that it's been two and a half years for me, a quarter of a decade, so I'm well past my prime. It's time to start looking forward to... are there any blogger retirement homes?

Anyway, having had little to say for weeks now, I realize that I'm disappointing even you, my lone yet loyal commentator. To disappoint one's entire readership is the ultimate blogging failure. I didn't escape from real life only to meet my downfall in blogland. It's time to end the travesty.

I will miss you dearly but I'm sure you will keep on posting your insightful comments on my older posts, as they occur to you. I will leave those past posts up as a memorial testament to a bygone era and we can visit them together when we long for companionship.

Tearfully yours,
Bas~Melech

LOL.

The death of commenting on blogs has been slow and... painful? It's been something, anyway.

I may never have commented, but I constantly check to see if you've posted anything new. I'll miss you if you don't post anymore.

Ok...before I noticed the label that said 'fiction' I was really distressed at the thought of BMB closing shop and moving outta blogsville.
Now that we know that it was nothing but a ploy for attention I will give you my comments and criticisms-
Firstly, it's BOSD not BoSD. Don't you know ANYTHING? Next, The blog is called BOSD, I am simply SD. Please don't confuse the two. Also, my gosh. Is the only nice thing you have to say about my blog the fact that I have 21 followers? (Oh, and thanks for pointing that out. At last check I had only 20 followers.) But seriously. How about something like "with the unique combination of her extraordinary talent, her obsession with writing, and her awesome sense of humor (and maybe blogwriter lite;), SD's new, but fabulous blog has attracted quite a number of followers in the first few months." That is still not quite doing me justice (LOL imagine that being said in the right voice;) but it's definitely better. Oh, and I've got a club too. And this post is all the proof I need that you are a secret member of it. You might as well put the badge up on your sidebar and let people know...
Sigh.
I think that's it for now.
Oh, wait. It's not. Posting at 12 am...does that mean that you went to sleep a few minutes later? :-p

BM- this post made me very very sad, until I saw the word fiction. Glad you're still around in blogland.
And- I comment! Don't I count?
I love reading and commenting, when I feel I have something worthwhile to comment on, at least. Mostly, I just look at all that you and other bloggers write, and go, "Gosh, they're so smart and amazing writers. I can't do that."

ditto to chavamf - i also tend not to comment, but I keep tabs on your blog and check it frequently.
Thank G-d for that little label named "fiction" ;)
yours was one of the first blogs I found a long long long time ago when I was first introduced to the blogosphere and I've always enjoyed your stuff! :)

P.S. email me and I'll invite you to my blog ;)

glad to see that this is just an April Fools joke. Keep up the great posts!

This joke is not funny - you really had my sad till i read the others comments - nope not observant enough to notice the 'fiction' label, although it did puzzle me who Aoc Gold is. Glad you're staying and glad I'll still be getting an inspiration shot when u write.

I remember Aoc Gold, funny how you incorporated that into your post. But I really do love and appreciate your blog! Did you see all that I wrote about it? I wrote like a whole paragraph back in December.

I didn't even see the fiction label, just from the comments I realized its an April Fools joke.

Hi Bas Melech
I'm just commenting to let you know I'm here, in case you were somewhat serious about feeling left out. But I'm happy that the resignation part is only a joke. I haven't been reading for so long but I think you really have interesting things to say.

Oh and I also want to say:
One thing I learned from my life (story developing on my blog, sorry so slow) is that you need to appreciate who you are instead of always looking for major popularity. Some of the best things in the world are only appreciated by the few people who are able to.

There, now you have 2 comments from me!

I think I did my post a bit early- a few bloggers have done this APRIL 1st. the sad thing is? I am so new to blogging that when I wrote my goodbyes a few days ago I really meant it. How embarrassing that my angst over running dry is apparently typical blog humor for April 1st!!

but you touched on something quite true in your fictional post. Some blogs hit it off, some don't. I'm trying hard, but...poor me

OK, OK, April Fool everyone... I was hoping the "fiction" tag wouldn't be so obvious because I thought it would be just a bit cruel to leave no sign. Not to mention a sure way to lose any readers I do have :-P

Thanks for the comments, all. And I'm thrilled that I got some lurkers out of the closet! Welcome chavamf, thinking, frayda, child and citizen! :-D

SD - My sincerest apologies. I don't tweak my layout often but next time I head into my dashboard maybe I'll add the comment club widget. I just feel like that somehow screams desperation...
FR - AOC Gold is the most persistent spammer in blogsville.
Jewish Side - OMG, I meant to put you in there also! My other favorite relatively new/wildly popular blog!
CI - Thanks for the encouragement... you're right, I was only half kidding...
Citizen - Commenting on other blogs and leaving a link to yours is a good way to get comments. I'd read your blog except your user name isn't linked, I guess your profile is private? Maybe give it another go now that you've told us you're here?

Well, everyone, thanks for your confirmation and yes, it looks like I'm here to stay. Though I must say I'm still rather envious of those instant-hit blogs :-P

Something Different said...

B~M- apology accepted. Please make sure you don't make those mistakes again. :-p
And while that badge may scream "desperation", this post screams it a lot louder. ;)
Put it up! You know you want to!

Oh, and my April fools blogging joke that I decided not to do was to comment on someone's blog with a name like "mommy" and an angry comment about how they should get themselves OFF the computer and stop fooling around online.... ;)
I had pity on everyone though, cuz if I'd get a comment like that I'd probably die.

SD - it took me a few minutes to get that...*screams*

.....yeah, um, that's like the whole paradox of blogs in my opinion...it's really just a diary of sorts...and nobody wants strangers reading their diary...but then again, in "blogoland" (sounds like where Blogoyevich is from or something) a lack of readers, followers and commenters is seen as somewhat of a failure..I don't really get it..

Though I've seen blogers who never had any comments and are still "blogging their heads off" as if the world was their stage..

Personally I've got a pretty limited readership, though it doesn't worry me since my writing is more for myself than others, and only a few would find the subject matter of the blog to be of any interst..

..why am I saying this, again? ..forgot...

And where is good ol' Aoc? ..this is her big moment..
