Delusions?

artmaterials

Bas~Melech is slowly losing her grip on reality.

It’s the only way to explain how I could possibly spend an hour hours days significant chunks of time browsing through art supplies when I have lots piles mountains of work waiting at home.

See, I have these delusional fantasies that hanging around in discount art stores in questionable neighborhoods, discriminatively comparing erasers or something, makes one a better artist. So every so often, when I’m feeling frustrated and down, I go and carefully scrutinize pencils, testing them on the scratchpads with an artsy flourish. Hey, $0.50 may be a bit pricey for a nice sheet of paper for a project that in all likelihood will never be completed, but it makes for a very affordable shopping spree therapy. I don’t treat myself too often...

The remaining question is why I’m sharing this with you. The answer, of course, is because I’m not near an art store now. In other words, this is pure procrastination. I actually mentally posted about 3 times in the last week, but of course I don’t remember them anymore... Just had to stick in a word to let you know I’m still alive out here, though I was feeling a bit under the weather this past week and opted to sleep instead of blog. Yeah, I know, my priorities are so messed up sometimes..

I believe that procrastination is an indication of intelligence. Anyway, life would be so boring without crunch time...
(And by the way, it seems like most bloggers are the procrastinative type...maybe cuz blogging gives you an excuse to do something else instead of your work?)

Looking forward to your next post!

Therapy is good for you, whatever form it takes! Now can we see some of your creative art work, or do you just do the buying supplies part ;)

Btw your word verification is longer than dreamers - I just had to fill in 5 for her and 7 for u!

I *also* love art stores! They are the best. I can wander through them for ages. The Pearl Paint on Canal St. in Manhattan is four (IIRC) floors of dreamy art bliss.

and my supplies aren't quite as cheap as yours...

Procrastination? This is important! for your sanity. A person needs hobbies and stuff... who cares about the non-hobbies? Nobody - not before deadline.

Hey guys if you need help marking tests..I volunteered to do it for my sister cuz I thought it was fun to do. Now I understand all of you..never again. It is boring, boring, boring. Art projects sound sooo much more exciting.

Ahh another procrastinator..
As a fellow artist..I can appreciate this..nothing like coming home with a fresh pad or canvas..and a great idea in your mind...only to push it off endlessly..
oh well

I don't do art projects so much as I do small things that I can make with my hands. I love to paint pottery, make jewelry, stuff like that. But art stores are still fun to play in. :)

CP: Well, what do I do now -- I've started procrastinating about blogging, too!

Smile: Sorry, only responded to the second part before. Yes, I have been planning to post some artwork, though it's nothing too impressive. I just need to dig out my scanner...

Dreamer: At least you're having ideas. Mine flit in and out so fast I can barely catch them.
And I WISH I had time to mark your papers for you...

B4S: Deadline? Hobbies are my lifeline!

HS: If only my problem was boredom of marking tests... I just realized that I haven't posted yet about my, um, incredible class. Incredible as in "I can't believe they put these kids together in one room with only me to keep them alive."

DOTL: Exactly. *sigh*

Scraps: Yo, that's also art. I like pottery, too, though I don't get to do it often. And jewelry making was cool until a certain incident that made me vow never again to get close enough to spill beads... ;-)

Hahahaha. I've spilled beads all over more times than I can count. My floor in seminary was littered with them; they roll into all the tiny cracks and corners and when you drop a container of seed beeds, they go everywhere. Doesn't stop me, though. I just have to be careful. :)

I can top that: I was an arts n' crafts counselor on a tight budget when the head decided it would be nice to make jewelry... spent two weeks picking up and sorting tiny beads...

The kids really loved it though.
